Wintering On The Atlantic Coastal South

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

One of the best things about nomadic life is getting to choose where you want to be, whenever you want. We initially chose to winter in Florida, but hurricane Ian forced many residents to live in their RV's while they recovered. Florida is already home to hordes of "snowbirds" who have reserved spots and return year after year, which makes it harder to find campgrounds.

So. . . our Plan B was coastal Georgia and the Carolinas. Wow! what a pleasant surprise. Historical cities, great weather and amazing campgrounds.

Take New Bern, North Carolina for instance. We had no idea that this beautiful city is the birthplace of Pepsi Cola, the world famous beverage. The Image above is the store which once was the pharmacy where in 1867 Caleb Bradham invented the drink. We had to experience a Pepsi from the original soda fountain that dispensed the first glass.

Below is the historic coastal city of Savannah, Georgia. Take a look at our video and if you like it, please subscribe to our channel.

Having discovered what a "gem" the Southern Atlantic coast is in winter, we are going to explore it until spring. If you watched our colonial cities videos on Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg, you will see reenactments of life for the early settlers and fortune seekers.

Our journey south from summer in Maine allowed us to visit many historic places and see how European settlement of the country began. We have witnessed how prosperity changed lives and ultimately the country.

In our next video we visit Charleston, SC. A beautifully preserved southern city that displays both the opulence of a bygone era and its dark past. We love making these videos and meeting new people along the way. Our intent is to whet your appetite for travel and take you to places you never thought about. To those of you who are thinking about spending time on the road, we hope our videos help you make your bucket list of places to see.
